Welcome to Mt (P)Olympus
Ode to Mt (P)Olympians
By: Grace Lau IG:@notverygracepole
We begin with Dionysus, god of wine, festivity and fun,
The patron saint of celebration, bacchanal for everyone.
Though storms may come and trials abound, fear not ye children of earth
With blessing from this god, they'll fade, replaced by joy and mirth
So if man should ever find himself in dark times of toil and strife
Learn from Dionysus: dance, drink and enjoy life.
At birth, each life has design, decided by sisters three
We call them the Fates, ever-weaving goddesses of destiny
Clotho spins the thread of life, Lachesis measures years,
Then Atropos terminates each life, with a swift cut from her shears
So mortals, go forth and live boldly, a life you feel ideal
Before your days are ended with the snip of Atropos' steel
High in the heavens reigns Apollo, god of sun and light
Through the blessings of Apollo, mortals are granted warmth and sight
Praise Apollo, child of man, bask in the glory of his golden ray(s)
And take comfort in the darkest night, knowing Apollo will bring a new day
Hail Aphrodite, born of foam from the wild seas
Goddess of love and romance
Whose stunning beauty brings men to their knees
Young lovers gather in worship of her, poets and artists are inspired
With deeply rooted passion, enthusiasm and desire
So carry on, dear mortals, and revel in the beauty that surrounds
And exudes from Aphrodite -- sure to amaze and astound.
Behold all ye of arrogance, in whom hubris avails
Remorseless goddess Nemesis, winged bearer of sword and scales
She birthed Helen to start a war, led Narcissus to his end.
When mortals dare defy the gods, they send the goddess of revenge.
So fear her, prideful mortals, respect the gods or take heed
For It is Nemesis who keeps the balance, by ending those corrupted by greed.
Hail to Eos, goddess of dawn, deliverer of first light
Whose warmth and glow melts away the cold darkness of night
But lo, lustful Eos threw herself in the arms of Aries,
Who Aphrodite loved well, so she cast a spell
And to this day, the effect still carries
Now every man Eos looks upon stirs up the same passion and fire
But due to the curse, she cannot sate her thirst
And is destroyed by her own desire.
So heed this warning, mortals, be slow to acting on things you crave
Like Eos, you may later find it not worth the price you pay.
Champion of the gods, Nike, we call upon thee,
Golden winged goddess of victory, she
leading heroes into battle, with ferocity and zeal,
and places laurels atop the victors when their opponents finally yield.
If all seems lost, dear mortals, in your desperate, most trying hour
It's Nike you must pray to, for triumph -- all you need is but a taste of her power.
We find our next goddess at season's end, in the feel of winter's chill
It's Khione, goddess of ice and snow, displaying her might and will
Daughter of the North Wind God and Goddess of Mountain Gales,
She puts on a show of perilous snow covering all road and trail
So beware ye mortals, who venture in winter and struggle to keep yourselves warm
Seek shelter, take cover, lest you hope to brave Khione's terrible storm
Sing praises to Nyx, deity of night, mother to sleep and death,
Primordial goddess, Nyx knew the world's stillness before life took its first breath
Dark, foreboding and powerful, Nyx strikes even Zeus with fear
But hark, ye mortals, the goddess is not as sinister as she appears
Though the cover of dark allows mortals to act in ways the gods detest
Nyx brings calm and tranquility in night that grants ye mortals rest
In the darkest of nights, shines brilliant and bright, the fair goddess Selene
Deity of the moon, guiding light, Olympus’ celestial queen
From high above, she radiates and glows, the oceans reflect her gleam
And mortals who become lost in the night, seek out her soft white beam
So keep in mind, children of man, if you’re ever gone astray,
To praise the goddess, look to the moon and Selene will light your way,

Act 2
We find a mortal woman asleep in the cold, dreaming of the goddesses and gods of Mt (P)Olympus.

Venmo and CashApp links may be used to directly support each artist. Studio time, classes and wardrobe all add up. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you for supporting the arts.
Eric - Dionysus, god of wine and festivity.
Technical consultant.
Eric chose Dionysus, the original turn up king. Wine and celebration, who could ask for anything more? Festivals celebrating Dionysus are also the birthplace of Greek theatre, which laid the groundwork for theatre as we know it. All trickling down to Eric and his career as a theatre professional.
Eric has been poling for a little more than a year, and is a 2022 Gold medalist in the Pole Sport Organization Pacific Division. He says that what pole means to him is; expression, accomplishment and community.

Cat Bowens - Atropos, one of the three fates.
Associate Producer.
Cat has always found the concept of fate to be interesting. Contemplating the idea that one being, Atropos, holds the decision and power over when and how a person dies is fascinating.
Cat has been poling for 9 months. In this short time, she has discovered, and become central to, an awesome and supportive community that has helped her to come out of her shell (a little :)).

Deeana Garcia - Apollo, the god of the Sun.
Production Manager.
Dee chose Apollo, the god of music, dance, truth, healing and poetry. He is considered to be the most beautiful god of them all. Her performance is an ode to her own sweet Apollo.
Dee has been poling for a year and a half. She credits pole as an outlet to explore movement, dance, expression, friendships, love and relationships.

Amber - Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love.
Aphrodite calms the seas, causes the meadows to spring forth with flowers, the storms to abate, and wild animals to follow her in submission. She flows with grace but is also a force to be reckoned with.
Amber has been poling for a year and a half. She finds that pole is a fun method of dance which keeps her challenged while giving her space to express her creativity.

Grace - Nemesis, the goddess of retribution and revenge.
Writer.
Nemesis is the goddess who punishes hubris - arrogant mortals who think themselves better than the gods.
Grace describes her pole journey as inspiring, empowering and life-changing. Pole has taught her to love herself, enjoy the process (even if frustrating at times) and marvel at strength she didn't know she had.

Mimi - Eos, goddess of the dawn.
Mimi chose Eos, a peaceful goddess cursed to hold a strong desire for love and passion as punishment for the love she shared with her dearest Ares. Aphrodite, also enamored with Ares, cursed her to live in a constant state of craving.
Mimi has been poling for one year and has found it to be a way to build on her creativity that presents an infinite number of challenges. Pole keeps her curious.

Nancy Adzentoivich - Nike, the winged goddess of victory.
Producer/Director /Writer/VO
Nancy chose Nike because of the spirit of perseverance, tenacity and victory the goddess personifies. Having always been enamored of the famous Nike of Smothrace sculpture at The Louvre museum, it seemed a natural choice.
Nancy has been poling for a little more than a year and is a 2022 silver medalist in the Pole Sport Organization Pacific Division. She has found a home in the supportive and creative pole community, and says that pole has provided a means to reconnect her mind and body, to express the divine feminine, and a pathway to meeting her unapologetic, authentic self.

Shaina Fawn - Khione, goddess of ice and snow.
Shaina chose Khione because she has always wanted to choreograph to the song Frozen by Madonna.
Shaina has been poling for 13 months. Her pole journey has brought her closer to joy and self-love. She is amazed by her own strength and abilities, and her growth over such a short period of time.

Cassandra Salas - Nyx, the personification of darkness.
Cassandra chose Nyx, goddess of darkness who presides over the nighttime. Her powers include the element of surprise, fear and death. Nyx also holds powers over light, illumination and fertility. There can be no darkness without the light.
Cassandra has been poling for 10 months. Her pole journey has helped to bolster her self-confidence and to break her out of her shyness. It has challenged her to face her fears and doubts about herself while providing a sense of empowerment. She believes pole has saved her in countless ways she never could have imagined. And it's FUN!
